Amy B. Bakay, Founder and Principal Consultant
Amy B. Bakay, SHRM-SCP, with over two decades of experience as an HR practitioner, believes that in today’s regulatory landscape, no matter what the size—HR management is indispensable for every organization. Amy believes that HR professionals are protectors of culture and the gatekeepers for an overall code of conduct, from employment compliance, workplace investigations, to talent acquisition and leadership development. However, she saw that in the market, there is not always a one-size-fits-all approach to manage varied HR processes. Failing to handle HR correctly will result in financial or compliance related risks and when it comes to Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs), they know for sure that they need a Charted Professional Accountant (CPA) or quality accountant for the business while overlooking HR. Amy notes, “Sometimes these companies approach me and ask ‘when is the right time to hire HR?’” For which she answers with one of her popular taglines, “The best time for HR is before you think you need it.” This holds true, especially, when there are federal employment laws even for companies with twenty-five employees. To answer all these needs and make HR less complicated, Amy, a certified Development Dimensions International (DDI) Facilitator and Predictive Index Analyst, founded HR Nola, a woman-owned business that delivers tailored and cost-effective HR solutions to SMBs, all within their budget.
From hire to retire, HR Nola assists its clients with a book of services which includes compliance and culture audits, training, employee development and efficiencies, recruiting, and HR professional placements.
All these services are offered through a team of highly skilled practitioners with more than 10-20 years experience, and they dedicate their time and focus to overall business development and success. They are also the members of National Society of Human Resources Management and have worked in-house for various sized companies and industries.
Whenever a client approaches HR Nola, the company learns the client’s business needs and then provides simple, practical and proven strategies with the addition of best people management support. With just 8 to 14 concentrations in a period of 3 to 4 weeks, the firm completes the whole audit. The result of this audit is categorized into three areas—high risk, medium risk, and low risk. These risk factors give the client a detailed report of what areas the client has to take immediate attention. “Satisfied by the clear picture of our reports, 95 percent of our clients always try to retain their services with us,” points out Amy who is also the Founder and Principal Consultant of HR Nola. At times the clients even require support for more than 40 hours per week. During that point, the firm itself finds a full time HR practitioner to assist the company.
Citing one of their success stories, Amy points out a start-up firm, they have been working for the past year. HR Nola not only offered solutions suiting to all their needs as a small business, but also trained the leadership team in terms of compliance to gear them up for future growth. It so happened that this client faced a harassment issue, but with HR Nola’s training, the firm was ready for it. This not only saved them from earning a bad reputation but also time and potential litigation.
Pleased by HR Nola’s tailored solutions, easy approach and affordable cost, a myriad of companies are reaching out to the company, particularly for their compliance. They are now extending their roots beyond New Orleans, serving clients in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and West Virginia. Moving ahead, HR Nola is planning to be a full-time HR practitioner, streamlining the audit process further and delivering real time results.
